Detection from Omicron variant subtypes BA.1 and BA.2
The Covid-19 FluoGene® Q Kit Kit now specifically detects Omicron variant subtypes BA.1 and BA.2
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic the SARS-CoV-2 mutated to several variants, which superseded other variants of the virus. Most recent, the Omicron variant, B.1.1.529, replaced the so far dominant Delta Variant, B.1.617.2, completely.
Two Omicron variant subtypes exist and it seems that the newer subtype BA.2 supersedes the first subtype BA.1. As different variants comprise the risk of easier infection, altered or more or less severe symptoms, as well as the risk of vaccination escape the knowledge of the exact infection of a patient can be highly valuable.
Our Covid-19 FluoGene® Q detects both general SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA and specifically which Omicron variant subtype is present, i.e. BA.1 or BA.2. Positive controls for both variants are included in the kit.
